Why do we love it?

Liatiko Blanc de Noir 2024 from Charalabakis Winery is the first attempt of creating a white wine from Crete’s most important red variety — and judging by the excellent result, more are likely to follow!

Charalabakis Winery is a relatively new project based in Heraklion, Crete, founded in 2014, although the family’s connection to cultivation dates to 1975. The wine “bug” eventually bit the family, and in 2008 they began investing in vineyard planting. Today, they cultivate 200 hectares of their own vineyards, growing both traditional Cretan grape varieties and international ones, focusing exclusively on producing wines from their estate fruit.

Their love for Cretan grapes is undeniable, so they decided to see Liatiko from a different angle. They vinified it as a blanc de noir, meaning a white wine made from red grapes. Afterwards, the white Liatiko aged for 4 months in oak barrels, gaining a spicier, richer character and a rounder mouthfeel.

If you’re looking to try something truly different, look no further. Liatiko Blanc de Noir 2024 from Charalabakis Winery is one of the most unique wines you’ll find.

Tastes Like

In the glass, Liatiko Blanc de Noir 2024 shows a pale golden color with subtle orange hues, coming from the red grape skin. On the nose, it stands out with ripe aromas of bergamot, kumquat, bitter orange, and hints of honeysuckle and orange blossom, along with a gentle touch of oak.

The excellent oak integration continues on the palate, adding a sweet hint of spices to the fruity flavors, while the crisp acidity brings the necessary freshness and balance.

PAIR IT

Pair it with roasted chicken and potatoes, pasta with mushrooms and bacon, or a ham and graviera cheese tart.

Tart with smoked chicken (apaki), cherry tomatoes and pepper

  • 1  pack of tart crust
  • 300 gr. Feta cheese grated
  • 200 gr. yogurt
  • 100 gr. cream cheese
  • 1 green pepper, cut into cubes
  • 100 gr. Chopped smoked chicken (apaki)
  • 6 cherry tomatoes sliced in half
  • 50 gr. olive fillets
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper

Bake the tart crust by placing baking paper on its surface and on top of it put some raw beans to prevent from puffing up while baking. Remove the tart from the oven after it is browned well and everywhere.

In a deep dish mix the cheeses with the yogurt.

Add the pepper, the fillet of olives and half the chicken to the cheese and yoghurt container and mix well.

Fill the tart crust with the mixture evenly and add the remaining chicken and tomatoes on the top.

Place the tart in a preheated oven at 180 ° C for 20 minutes.

Then, remove it from the oven, let it cool down and serve.
