Furmint, Hungary, and Majoros Tokaji Tarcal Furmint 2021! And just when we thought we had learned everything about Hungarian wines and were saying that we had discovered all they were worth, Majoros was standing a little further away and laughing mockingly. Lemony aromas, minerality, and bone-crushing acidity, all together in the superlative degree! This wine was a great discovery!
Laszlo Majoros runs the family winery in the historic region of Tarcal. His experience in winemaking is undeniable, as he has been deeply involved in vineyard cultivation since he was a child. The region carries a huge tradition in wine production, and in his case, this has been combined with modern winemaking techniques to preserve and highlight the richness of the Tokaj terroir in the best possible way.
Majoros Tokaji Tarcal Furmint 2021 comes from the 40-year-old Agyag and Deák vineyards located in the southwestern part of Tarcal, with a history dating back to 1400. These vineyards are cultivated exclusively for this wine, with Furmint and Hárslevelű varieties in a 90% and 10% ratio, respectively. The composition of the soil and the higher temperatures in this particular spot give wonderful aromas and a characteristic acidity and minerality, providing them with a special minerality. The fermentation took place in 90% Hungarian 220-liter barrels and remained there for 6 months, where it acquired complexity and structure, which will keep it alive and enjoyable for the next 6 to 8 years!
