Mongrana Bianco Querciabella Winery is proof that Tuscany can do except from great reds and impressive whites, too. From the special variety Vermentino and with a cooler than cool label with cuttlefish ink pasta winking at you slyly you can’t do otherwise than love it!

Mongrana Bianco Querciabella Winery is a special wine that encapsulates the magic of Maremma and Sebastiano's philosophy. Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, who is the man behind the winery, is obsessed with protecting the environment and the land, as these are the basis for every great wine. Thus, he made the decision to switch to biodynamic cultivation in 2000, following organic cultivation tactics since 1988. Mongrana is made of 100% Vermentino grapes, from the estate's private-owned vineyards. The low yield per hectare gives incredible concentration and expressiveness to the wine. After fermentation, in controlled conditions, is complete, the wine matures in concrete and stainless-steel tanks for 6 months. It is then bottled, elegant and complex, ready to conquer you.

Tastes Like

Mongrana Bianco Querciabella Winery has pale lemon color and delicate aromas of peach, pear, citron, tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, chamomile and herbs.

In the mouth, it has medium body, pronounced acidity and oily texture. Juicy yellow fruits mingle with notes of citrus,dough and white flowers.

PAIR IT

Pair it with artichokes with egg-lemon sauce, farfalle with peas, asparagus and lemon, sauteed sole

Steamed mussels with turmeric

  • 700 g mussels
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1 Garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp.  turmeric
  • 1 glass of white wine
  • Olive oil
  • Salt (Optional)
  • Pepper

Wash the mussels under plenty of water, removing the sand and seaweed and thoroughly cleaning the shell.

Saute the onion and garlic and add the mussels. Then add 1 tablespoon sweet turmeric and one glass of wine. Let the alcohol evaporate a little and cover the pot to boil for 5'-6 '.

Agitate the pot, remove the cover and serve on a deep dish.

Add freshly ground pepper (salt is optional) and garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme.

TIP: During the wash, throw the open mussels. After cooking,  throw the closed mussels.
