Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire 2014 by Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is here and its impressive! We are talking about a legendary Pinot Gris from an epic vintage, by the most iconic winemaker of the region. If you're wondering, how would a wine from a Master of Wine taste like, then you should definitely taste this one, because Olivier Humbrecht is the first MW of France!
Olivier is the third generation of the winery and had the duty to do his best to honor his legacy. The first step was to become Master of Wine to better understand wine. Then, in 2002, he decided to apply biodynamic cultivation to his vines. Today, he is fairly considered the maître of Pinot Gris. His wines impress everyone and reflect the history of the winery and the unique Alsace terroir. Specifically, Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire 2014 comes from limestone soils that incredibly favor Pinot Gris, allowing it to express its aromatic character better. The vintage of 2014 was a good year that gave wines with classic, Alsatian finesse and high acidity. Wine Enthusiast, Wine Advocate and James Suckling scored it with 93 points in 2016, but we are confident that if they tasted it again now, it will surely score 4-5 points higher.
Olivier Humbrecht MW thinks Pinot Gris of 2014 should ideally be enjoyed from 2017 to 2024. So yes, its time is now but it will not complain if you keep it in your cellar a bit longer.
