We fell in love with Neudorf Tiritiri Pinot Gris 2023 for many reasons, but mainly because it revealed a different side of Pinot Gris—one that blends richness, freshness, and elegance. It’s frequently recognized with high scores from renowned wine critics like Jancis Robinson MW and James Suckling, highlighting Neudorf’s talent for crafting outstanding Pinot Gris.
Neudorf Vineyards began its story in 1978, when Tim and Judy Finn planted their first vines on the Moutere Hills in Nelson, New Zealand—a region that, at the time, wasn’t considered a classic wine-growing region. But they saw the land’s potential. The winery itself started in a 120-year-old stable, which over time gained international acclaim and is now considered one of the country’s most iconic boutique wineries. Some wine critics even call it “New Zealand’s most consistent winery.”
Since joining Neudorf Vineyards in July 2012 as general manager and head winemaker, Todd Stevens has led a transformative chapter in the winery’s history. His leadership was instrumental in earning Neudorf the title of Winery of the Year. Todd is a strong advocate of a low-intervention philosophy, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. He aims to let the terroir and fruit shine through in the wine, without unnecessary embellishments. The vineyards are farmed organically, yields are kept low, and the winery runs entirely on solar power, using lightweight glass bottles to significantly reduce its carbon footprint.
Neudorf Tiritiri Pinot Gris 2023 is fermented with ambient yeasts—87% in stainless steel tanks and 13% in French oak barrels. The result is a wine with an incredible texture that retains all the juicy aromas of lemon, papaya, pear, and white flowers, while also offering a savory, umami-like edge.
This is a Pinot Gris that’s both distinctive and classic—you need to try it now!
“Tiritiri” in the Māori language means “to plant,” symbolizing not just the growth of the vineyard, but also the philosophy behind Neudorf Vineyards.
