The Gustave Lorentz winery was founded in 1836 and has been run by 7 generations of the same family ever since. Over the years, it has faced numerous challenges, with the phylloxera epidemic being one of the most significant, but it not only overcame them and survived, it evolved into one of the region’s most important wineries. Its philosophy is based on the authentic expression of terroir, combined with the peculiarities of each vintage. In the case of the Riesling variety, this means wines with exceptional clarity, minerality, and finesse, which uniquely express the character of the land and the winemaking mastery of Gustave Lorentz.
The Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg De Bergheim 2019 comes from the famous Grand Cru vineyard of Altenberg De Bergheim. Due to the steep slope and soil composition (mainly clay and limestone), the grapes ripen excellently in this particular vineyard. The vines have been grown organically for about 800 years, and their age ranges from 30 to 50 years. All of the above contribute to the creation of a perfectly balanced Riesling, with delicate aromas of the variety, and all its richness hidden in the expressive and full body, typical of Alsace Rieslings.
As soon as you buy it, consume it immediately with duck in orange sauce (because you definitely won’t resist, it’s THAT ready), or forget it in your cellar for more than a decade and be patient! Its complexity will reward you!
