Why do we love it?

The Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg De Bergheim 2019 is a complex white wine, characteristic of the variety's style from Alsace, impressing both with its full body and elegant aromatic profile. In fact, in 2023, it was voted Best in Show in the Decanter competition, scoring 97pts! Well, you can’t miss it…

The Gustave Lorentz winery was founded in 1836 and has been run by 7 generations of the same family ever since. Over the years, it has faced numerous challenges, with the phylloxera epidemic being one of the most significant, but it not only overcame them and survived, it evolved into one of the region’s most important wineries. Its philosophy is based on the authentic expression of terroir, combined with the peculiarities of each vintage. In the case of the Riesling variety, this means wines with exceptional clarity, minerality, and finesse, which uniquely express the character of the land and the winemaking mastery of Gustave Lorentz.

The Riesling Grand Cru Altenberg De Bergheim 2019 comes from the famous Grand Cru vineyard of Altenberg De Bergheim. Due to the steep slope and soil composition (mainly clay and limestone), the grapes ripen excellently in this particular vineyard. The vines have been grown organically for about 800 years, and their age ranges from 30 to 50 years. All of the above contribute to the creation of a perfectly balanced Riesling, with delicate aromas of the variety, and all its richness hidden in the expressive and full body, typical of Alsace Rieslings.

As soon as you buy it, consume it immediately with duck in orange sauce (because you definitely won’t resist, it’s THAT ready), or forget it in your cellar for more than a decade and be patient! Its complexity will reward you!

Tastes Like

Elegant aromas of lemon zest, lime, yellow grapefruit, green apple, and pear are intertwined with notes of white pepper, allspice, and sage.

On the palate, it has a full body with sharp, refreshing acidity. Juicy lemons, lime, citron, and unripe pineapple are framed by a distinctly mineral character, almost petrol-like, which has a long and highly enjoyable finish.

RIESLING GRAND CRU 2019 ALTENBERG DE BERGHEIM GUSTAVE LORENTZ

PAIR IT

Pair it with salmon with orange and ginger, pasta al limone, or roasted pork belly with apples.

Salad with smoked trout, green apple and herbs

For the salad
1 pack of mixed lola and arugula salad
1 fillet of smoked trout
1 green apple
1 finocchio
3 radishes
3-4 walnuts
trout eggs, optional

For dressing
2 green onions
15 gr dill
10 g fennel
1 clove of garlic
20 ml. vinegar of white wine
1 lemon
40 ml. olive oil
Freshly ground pepper
Coarse salt

Prepare the dressing: In a food processor (multi), mix all the ingredients for the dressing, by adding the olive oil in the end, while tasting and seasoning.

Finely chop the finocchio, chunk the green apple and the two radishes, put them in a bowl and add half the quantity of trout fillet, which you have crumbled with your hands.

Pour half the amount of dressing, mix and place the fish salad in the fridge. Cut the other radish into thin slices and place the salad in a serving bowl and sprinkle with the dressing.

Add the already prepared fish salad, the remaining tout fillet, the radishes, the walnuts and the trout eggs. We garnish with plenty of dressing and serve.

Notes:
- Instead of smoked trout you can use any other smoked fish
- In the salad you can add orange
