An everyday luxury of French origin, which will satisfy all lovers of one of the most popular varieties worldwide. We are talking about the Sauvignon Blanc of Domaine de la Ferrandiere, in a typical expression of the variety, from the region of Aigues-Vives, in the Gard of Southern France.
Domaine de la Ferrandiere is in a very advantageous location on the slopes of Saint-Frichoux. There the family of Jean-Claude Mas, considered a pioneer in the production of "new wave" French Languedoc wines, cultivates an area of about 100 hectares, benefiting from the Mediterranean climate and the large temperature variations between day and night. The grapes are selected from vineyards between 7 and 25 years old, producing wines classified as IGP Pays d'Oc.
The area is known as 'the lagoon' and it is exactly what you imagine. This particular vineyard has been planted in the dried-up lake of Marseille. The subsoil there, in addition to clay, has very rich salty elements that give it a high natural resistance to phylloxera, the most destructive pest of European vineyards. So it is rightly considered one of the "surviving" vineyards, which is one more reason to try it! This feature is enhanced by the rare method of causing artificial flooding during the winter season. This balances the saltiness, protects the vines from frost and makes the use of pesticides completely unnecessary.
The result is a dry Sauvignon, with high acidity and rich aromas of tropical fruits and citrus fruits. Try it fresh and be inundated with the aromas of Marseille, at a price that will make you need an extra shelf in your personal wine cellar!
Go for it... and you will remember us!
