Why do we love it?

Typaion Assyrtiko 2024 Markogiannis is the new release from the Markogiannis family winery. Yes, it is Assyrtiko; no, it doesn’t behave like the rest. Minimal intervention and the thoughtful interplay of steel, oak and amphora sit perfectly with the naturally dynamic character of the variety, delivering a wine of depth, precision and unmistakable personality.

The Markogiannis Winery is a family estate with roots dating back to 1982, based in Skillountia, Ilia, close to Ancient Olympia. Since 2001, the vineyards have been farmed organically, guided by a philosophy of genuine respect for nature and a light hand in the cellar, allowing both place and variety to speak with clarity.

The grapes for Typaion Assyrtiko Markogiannis come from selected vineyards around ten years old and are fermented in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts. The wine then matures for six months, with 60% remaining in tank, 25% ageing in amphora and 15% in oak barrel. The result is vibrant and expressive, brimming with fruit while showcasing the distinctive mineral character that defines the variety.

Tastes Like

In the glass, Typaion Assyrtiko Markogiannis reveals aromas of citrus fruit, white‑fleshed peach and subtle mineral nuances.

On the palate, it is medium‑bodied with lively, refreshing acidity. Lemon, citron and bergamot lead the way, followed by peach, honeysuckle, gentle yeasty notes and a lingering impression of wet stone, coming together in a harmonious and highly drinkable whole.

PAIR IT

Pair it with raw or grilled seafood, chargrilled sea bass or classic lemon chicken.

Spaghetti with sun-dried tomatoes, pecorino and basil

500g wholegrain spaghetti
150g of sun-dried tomatoes
150g of pecorino
20g black raisins
1 clove of garlic
6-7 basil leaves
6-7 cherry tomatoes
80ml olive oi

Boil plenty of water in a large saucepan, add generous doses of salt and cook the spaghetti for 6-8 minutes. Drain them and keep a cup of the pasta water.

Put the sun-dried tomatoes, raisins, garlic, basil leaves, half of the pecorino and olive oil in the blender.

In a large frying pan put the pesto you just prepared, add the pasta and half of the pasta water, mix well and if necessary add a little more pasta water.

Add some freshly ground pepper, the cherry tomatoes cut in two, 2-3 tablespoons of pecorino and remove from the heat.
Serve with basil leaves and pecorino.

Recipe Notes:
- If you use dried sun-dried tomatoes soak them in water or in the olive oil you will use
- In addition to raisins we can add 2 dried dates
- You can also add some fresh thyme
