When we first tasted Moulin de Gassac Viognier, our immediate thought was: this is very good, so it must be expensive — after all, it regularly scores 90+ points from James Suckling and the estate behind it is a legend. When we saw the price, our eyes popped and we said: this is a wine we must get… not for us, of course (our noses have grown a bit too big), but for you!
The Moulin de Gassac project itself was created by Aimé Guibert, founder of Mas de Daumas Gassac, with the aim of saving precious Languedoc vineyards during the 1990s — a time when the French government was generously subsidising vine pull‑ups to control the oversupply of mediocre wine. Through close collaboration with local growers, the project brought to light authentic terroirs that were at serious risk of disappearing.
Vinification of Moulin de Gassac Viognier takes place in stainless steel tanks, focusing on purity of fruit and preserving the grape’s natural generosity. The wine then remains there for five months on its fine lees, gaining a delightfully creamy, textured mouthfeel.
This is not a wine you buy by the bottle — you buy it by the case!
