Rossiu di Munte Pinot Noir is striking, powerful and unapologetic about its heritage, both French and proudly Greek.
In 1959, Evangelos Averoff made the visionary decision to replant the abandoned vineyards scattered across the slopes of the Pindus mountains around Metsovo. To bring this ambition to life, he imported Cabernet Sauvignon vines from France and began crafting wine in the cellar beneath his family home, giving rise to the name Katogi Averoff.
To this day, the winery remains in the hands of the family, continuing its remarkable journey in both Greece and international markets. The high altitude vineyards and cool mountain climate provide ideal conditions for Pinot Noir. And when the grapes manage to escape the attentions of the local wild boar population, they produce an outstanding expression of the variety on Greek soil. Low yields contribute to an intensely concentrated must which, following an extended maceration, is matured in 300-litre French Allier oak barrels for approximately 20 months. The result is a wine of depth, structure and impressive complexity.
